Diversity is having a culture that values uniqueness: people of different backgrounds, cultures, genders, and races. Inclusion means inviting diverse groups to take part in company life. If you're tuned into conversations about HR, you've probably heard these terms before. But there's a third critical piece: belonging. It's belonging that makes each individual feel accepted for who they are. Explore the diversity, inclusion, and belonging (DIB) approach, and discover how to activate it in your organization. Join HR luminary Pat Wadors as she explains how to drive the conversation on DIBs, hire and retain diverse talent, listen to employees, and integrate DIBs into your employee life cycle. CW19 -Self-Publishing Workshop

Thinking of self-publishing your work, but don’t know where to start? Kati Lewis, Director of the Community Writing Center, will help us get started. Together, we’ll learn about the history and possibilities of self-publishing. We'll briefly discuss hand-built book making and some platforms for self-publishing in the digital age. We'll also engage in some writing activities. If there's time, we'll briefly go over branding, figure out if you need a barcode or ISBN, and how to get the word out about your publications.

CH14-Beyond Blue: Addressing Mental Health Concerns in the Workplace

One in four Americans will experience a mental illness in their lifetimes whether it be depression,

anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder or others. Most of those episodes occur during one's working life.

It is imperative that every employee is aware of the risks and signs of the various mental illness, as well

as coping strategies and pathways to support. 

This workshop is provided by Reliant Behavioral Health, the SLCC Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

Employee Wellness


There are many ways to engage with the Employee Wellness Program as an employee. Starting March 7, the personal training program will be starting another round of personal training for the 21-22 fiscal year.  

  • The personal training program will run March 7 – June 20 (Intake form opens up February 15). 
  • The personal training program offers 16 weeks of free, 1-hour personal training for full-time employees plus a monetary incentive for all those who complete the program.    
  • For those who are new to the program or are curious about whether it is right for you, there is a 17-minute introductory video to explain the program.
    • The aims of this video are to explain: 
      • The functionality of the program 
      • Participant selection process 
      • Expectations of personal trainers 
      • Expectations of clients 
  • Sign up by completing the Block 3 Intake Form starting February 15.  
  • For more opportunities such as Health Education, Walking Groups, Drop-in Yoga, Diabetes Prevention, and more visit the Employee Wellness Website

Positive Psychology: While many other branches of psychology tend to focus on dysfunction and abnormal behavior, positive psychology is the scientific study of the strengths that enable individuals and communities to thrive. This 16-week, interactive program focuses on boosting optimism and positivity. It’s a series of informative sessions designed to build valuable lifestyle practices and increase your overall well-being. The course highlights happiness, gratitude, mindfulness, and resilience education. 
Positive psychology teaches us the power of shifting one’s perspective which can lead to astounding changes in well-being and quality of life.
Positive Psychology Class Schedule: starting the beginning of March. Three virtual classes will be offered: Monday at 2, Tuesday at 1pm and Thursday at 2 pm. Class enrollment will be limited to 20 participants in each section, so please visit the Employee Wellness website to register.

One Small Change: Long-term healthy living needs simple beginnings. One Small Change is a health behavior change program that encourages participants to identify one health behavior that they would like to adopt, modify or eliminate and live that change for at least 21 days. Support for identifying a change, as well as living the identified change, comes from attending and participating in small group discussions. The group will meet online Mondays in March from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Submit the registration form to sign up.

Join SLCC faculty Heidi O’Donoghue and Andrea Malouf each Tuesday afternoon from 1-1:30 p.m. for Meditative Pause for People in Higher Education. Each week we will take a break from doing and problem-solving to come together for ½ hour sessions to connect, relax and center via zoom. We’ll explore breathing and relaxation techniques, as well as best practices for mindful communication and well-being. Each session will include a very brief introduction to the weekly topic, a guided meditation and then a short group reflection. No registration required.

Stories of Transformation: SLCC Symposium on Equity and Inclusion

This symposium is designed for SLCC students, faculty, staff, and administrators to share their experiences related to justice, equity diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) in the classroom, on campus, and in the community through storytelling. We continue to navigate the challenges and inequities in higher education and in our daily lived experiences, which have been further exposed by the Covid pandemic. Our hope is that the symposium will be a space to share our stories of transformation from inequity to equity, from exclusion to inclusion, from loss to growth, and from disconnection to belonging. Through our stories, we hope that participants will come away with stronger relationships, new ideas for JEDI work, and inspiration to take action towards creating a welcoming and inclusive working, teaching, and learning environment for everyone at SLCC. Broadcast Teacher Credential (DBTC)
Online
This course is for faculty who want to teach broadcast-mode (live-streamed) courses at SLCC. There are no on-campus meetings for this course. The course is taught in a fully-online cohort that is both synchronous (live-streamed) and asynchronous so the participants can experience what it’s like to be a broadcast student and learn research-based best practices and expectations of being an broadcast instructor at SLCC. The course runs for five weeks, with assignments due each week. The course takes about 12 hours to complete (1-3 hours per week for five weeks). The next cohort runs from 3/21/22 to 4/25/22. PREREQUISITES: To register, you MUST already have competency in Canvas and Zoom, and you MUST have already completed the Online Teacher Credential course. Building your brand is critical to reaching your career goals and climbing the career ladder. A strong brand clarifies your strengths and helps build trust and credibility with others. This short course—part of the Women Transforming Tech series—helps young women in tech understand how to leverage their unique personal brand to meet their professional goals. Syamla Bandla—a tech leader and current director of product engineering at Facebook—explains why a personal brand is so beneficial, and shows how to define, promote, and evolve your brand. She also describes how personal branding can be applied to overcome obstacles and how introverts can use their brand to build connections.

Employee Wellness


There are many ways to engage with the Employee Wellness Program as an employee. Starting March 7, the personal training program will be starting another round of personal training for the 21-22 fiscal year.  

  • The personal training program will run March 7 – June 20 (Intake form opens up February 15). 
  • The personal training program offers 16 weeks of free, 1-hour personal training for full-time employees plus a monetary incentive for all those who complete the program.    
  • For those who are new to the program or are curious about whether it is right for you, there is a 17-minute introductory video to explain the program.
    • The aims of this video are to explain: 
      • The functionality of the program 
      • Participant selection process 
      • Expectations of personal trainers 
      • Expectations of clients 
  • Sign up by completing the Block 3 Intake Form starting February 15.

Positive Psychology: While many other branches of psychology tend to focus on dysfunction and abnormal behavior, positive psychology is the scientific study of the strengths that enable individuals and communities to thrive. This 16-week, interactive program focuses on boosting optimism and positivity. It’s a series of informative sessions designed to build valuable lifestyle practices and increase your overall well-being. The course highlights happiness, gratitude, mindfulness, and resilience education. 
Positive psychology teaches us the power of shifting one’s perspective which can lead to astounding changes in well-being and quality of life.
Positive Psychology Class Schedule: starting the beginning of March. Three virtual classes will be offered: Monday at 2, Tuesday at 1pm and Thursday at 2 pm. Class enrollment will be limited to 20 participants in each section, so please visit the Employee Wellness website to register.

One Small Change: Long-term healthy living needs simple beginnings. One Small Change is a health behavior change program that encourages participants to identify one health behavior that they would like to adopt, modify or eliminate and live that change for at least 21 days. Support for identifying a change, as well as living the identified change, comes from attending and participating in small group discussions. The group will meet online Mondays in March from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Submit the registration form to sign up.
