Foundations of Inclusive Teaching

This self-paced, online Canvas course introduces instructors to key concepts and principles for equitable and inclusive teaching. The course includes definitions, short readings, videos, reflective questions, teaching strategies, and other resources. Participants will complete a series of self-paced learning activities, record their teaching ideas in a notebook or teaching journal, and complete a formal reflection. Adjunct faculty will be compensated for 6 hours for this course. This course is always available for registration.

EITP Level 1: Equitable & Inclusive Teaching Practices. Course begins May 31, 2022 

This online, facilitated Canvas course focuses on teaching practices that support learning and educational equity for community college students from diverse social, cultural, racial, linguistic, and educational backgrounds. Participants complete course development activities and work toward redesigning a course based on principles for effective, equitable, and inclusive teaching. Participants complete a short orientation and eight, 2-hour modules (one per week) with readings, videos, reflection questions, learning activities, and online discussions. Adjunct faculty are compensated 16 hours for this course. The course begins May 31 and runs through August 1. While faculty are encouraged to take the Foundations of Inclusive Teaching course first, it is not required. Contact Kristin.Morley@slcc.edu with questions.

Equity in Student Writing Learning Community

In this learning community, participants will learn how to create equitable writing instruction, assignment, and assessment practices for all SLCC students. Participants will complete a four-hour self-paced Canvas course and a one-hour scheduled learning community discussion. 5 hours total. Register for one, two, or all three learning community courses!

(FO21) Writing with Hidden Disabilities: June 24. Registration closes: June 17.
(FO22) Teaching Towards Linguistic Justice: July 29. Registration closes: July 22.

Equity in Student Writing—On Your Schedule If you cannot commit to a specific discussion date, (see learning community above), consider enrolling in one or more of the Equity in Student Writing self-paced courses.  These courses finish with an informal conversation with the facilitator that fits your schedule.

Course is always open (register anytime)
This course teaches the key features of Canvas. The course is self-paced, so you can complete this course as quickly you’d like. There are no on-campus meetings for this course. The course is taught asynchronously and fully online so you can experience what it’s like to be an online student. Adjunct faculty are compensated 12 hours for this course. Online Teacher Credential Course (DOTC)

Summer Cohort: 6/6/2022 to 7/18/2022 (last day to register: 6/1/22
This course is for all faculty who want to teach fully online courses at SLCC. There are no on-campus meetings for this course. The course is taught asynchronously and in a fully online cohort so you can experience what it’s like to be an online student and learn research-based best practices and expectations of being an online instructor at SLCC. The course runs for six weeks, with assignments due each week. Adjunct faculty are compensated 16 hours for this course. For more information, see FAQs about SLCC's Online Teacher Credential. Broadcast Teacher Credential Course (DBTC)

Summer Cohort 1: 6/13/22-7/18/22 (last day to register: 6/8)
Summer Cohort 2: 6/20/22-7/25/22 (last day to register: 6/15)
This course is for faculty who want to teach broadcast-mode (live-streamed) courses at SLCC. There are no on-campus meetings for this course. The course is taught in a fully-online cohort that is both synchronous (live-streamed) and asynchronous so the participants can experience what it’s like to be a broadcast student and learn research-based best practices and expectations of being an broadcast instructor at SLCC. The course runs for five weeks, with assignments due each week. Adjunct faculty are compensated 12 hours for this course. PREREQUISITES: Before registering, you MUST already have competency in Canvas and Zoom, and you MUST have already completed the Online Teacher Credential course. General Faculty Association Meeting Coming Up

It’s Faculty Association Executive Board Elections!

We are excited to invite you to this critical Faculty Association meeting. 

Wednesday, March 17, from 2:30–4 p.m. on WebEx.

This is right after Spring Break. 😊

(Our FA President, Justice Morath, will send you an email with the link to the meeting.)

• This is the meeting where you can run for a Faculty Association Executive Board position and vote for the new Board members. 
• If you would like to participate in exciting, and meaningful service that directly effects our work life, consider running for a position on the Board. The FA Executive Board meets once a month during the Fall and Spring semesters. 
• Our current FA President and VP will not be returning. We will be sad to see them step down. They have served us so well. There may be other Board positions open too. • Please email Justice.Morath@slcc.edu before March 17 if you are interested in running for a FA Executive Board position.
• This meeting will also be packed with current issues regarding COVID, your workload and benefits.

If you were unable to attend our Faculty Association meeting in February. Sorry you missed some important information. Here is just a taste of what happened.

1. Guest Speakers: The Faculty Development Office has new leadership. Reps from the Faculty Development Office came to our meeting and informed us about future opportunities for faculty. 

2. We addressed issues around COVID-19 such as: what’s up with vaccines and the Fall schedule? 

3. Our FA Pres shared an impressively written resolution to take to administration, advocating for faculty’s’ right to teach safely in Fall 2021 and not be pressured to teach face-to-face if it is too risky for them.

4. Ongoing policy and handbook changes were discussed including the FA Constitution and Senate’s AFPRT policy

5. The Faculty Association’s Website and Canvas site are getting a new and easy-to-use face lift

6. Tenure reviews during COVID were discussed

7. Our FA Rep to the Health Insurance Advisory Committee HIAC updated us about vetting potential health insurance providers
