LinkedIn Learning Course

Creating a Culture Connection

Thought leader Michael Lee Stallard and his colleagues have found that, when it comes to culture, the best ones are those that connect people to the organization, their peers, and their work in key ways that enhance performance. In this course, Michael explains the superpower of connection and identifies how it benefits individuals, teams, and organizations. Learn how to develop a “connection mindset" on your team by addressing specific mentalities to connect and by advocating for diversity and inclusion.

 LinkedIn JEDI Collection Learning Course

Teaching Civility in the Workplace

Focusing on eradicating negative behaviors isn’t always enough to create a happy workplace. Employees and managers also need to learn what they should do to make their environment a respectful and pleasant one. In this course, join Catherine Mattice Zundel as she shares how to create a happier, healthier workplace by teaching civility and setting a good example with your own behavior. Learn about negative behavior as a social phenomenon, what microaggressions look like in action, and how to replace negative language with positive words. Plus, get tips for becoming a more active listener, standing up for yourself when you experience microaggressions and incivility, and coaching others.

Salt Lake Community College will return to on-campus instruction for fall semester

While summer is just getting underway, SLCC is already making plans for fall semester. With the COVID-19 pandemic winding down, the college is anticipating being able offer students an experience more in line with what has been typically offered at the college.

This fall, SLCC is planning to raise the attendance caps in the classroom that were put in place due to the pandemic. These caps will be returned to their normal levels, and academic departments have been asked to move away from the hybrid instructional models that were made necessary by the caps. Most classes will be restored to a traditional lecture format where students meet on campus two days a week, but the college will also continue to support a pilot of broadcast/online-lecture format on a limited basis.

These changes mean that our Facilities Department will begin returning classrooms to their normal seating arrangements throughout the summer. Facilities will do their best to work so that in-person classes are not impacted, but be aware there may be occasional interruptions.

While the goal is to return to normal, we understand that some uncertainty remains. We still don’t know, for instance, what role face coverings will come August, but the situation will be closely monitored throughout the summer and specific guidance will be provided in advance.  We will also try to be flexible with faculty who have health and safety concerns.

If you have questions, please provide feedback through your associate dean if you are a faculty member, and if you are part of SLCC’s staff, please reach out to your supervisor. We are excited to be able to again offer a more traditional college experience to our students and we are looking forward to seeing everyone in person this fall!

Merging Your In-person and Online Classes

People & Workplace Culture is presenting a training session to help staff prepare for the challenge of the hybrid work environment. As we transition toward returning to campus, meetings and presentations will require a combination of attendance: some will attend in person, while others will attend simultaneously online. Adjusting your meeting and presentation formats and how you facilitate them to this unique situation will take care and planning. Join one of the following Zoom presentations to learn more.

Managing Stress for Change

n the workplace, stress is often viewed in purely negative terms. It's seen as a response that should simply be minimized or pushed aside; however, it's possible to use stress to fuel positive change. In this course, join instructor Heidi Hanna, PhD as she discusses what stress is, exactly; how you can train yourself to use stress in more effective ways; and what managers can do to reduce employee stress when an organization experiences difficult times.

Inclusive Instructional Design

Does the training you create really reflect your audience? Have you considered someone’s geographical location, learning preference, or accommodation needs? These types of questions should be core to the instructional design process. In this course, learn how to make sure your training is inclusive by considering everything from your graphics to the subject matter experts (SMEs) you select. Instructor Samantha Calamari illuminates ways in which individuals with different learning styles, abilities, and cultural backgrounds can be left out of traditional learning experiences. Throughout the course, she shares techniques and design methods that can help your training resonate with these—and all potential—audiences.
