Weekly Meditative Pause (Zoom)

Join SLCC faculty Heidi O’Donoghue and Andrea Malouf each Tuesday afternoon from 1-1:30 p.m. for Meditative Pause for People in Higher Education. Each week we will take a break from doing and problem-solving to come together for ½ hour sessions to connect, relax and center via zoom. We’ll explore breathing and relaxation techniques, as well as best practices for mindful communication and well-being. Each session will include a very brief introduction to the weekly topic, a guided meditation and then a short group reflection. No registration required. 


Equity in Student Writing Faculty Learning Community (FO18)  
March 4, April 1, April 29--Register for all sessions

In this learning community, participants will explore how to create (and support) equitable writing instruction, assignment, and assessment practices for all students. Participants will complete three self-paced online courses--4 hours each-prior to a 1-hour discussion. The courses and scheduled discussions are:

Faculty Learning Community: Rigor and Inclusivity (FC69)

Research demonstrates that when faculty hold high expectations for students, they will perform to these expectations. In this workshop we will discuss the concept of rigor in academia and its connection to inclusivity in the classroom. Through self-reflection and dialogue with colleagues, we will explore our perceptions of rigor and inclusivity, and how we can empower all our students in their learning 
 

Transparency in Assignments (FO17)

Join this hands-on workshop to explore and reflect upon transparency in your assignments. Learn how to develop transparency for students or share and troubleshoot how your efforts in transparency have unfolded. 
Transparency practices have been shown to improve student success, retention, and sense of belonging in college. Transparent assignments also reduce teacher frustration with student submissions.

This Faculty Learning Community FLC is designed as an ongoing space for faculty to be in community with each other, develop trust for open dialogue, and discuss justice, equity, diversity, and inclusivity -JEDI- issues in the classroom. We will discuss topics such as racial identity development, gender, bias and microaggressions, responding to challenging situations, and classroom and department climate. You are welcome to join one or all sessions. Come with any questions you may have regarding JEDI in your own classroom.

Stories of Transformation: SLCC Symposium on Equity and Inclusion

This symposium is designed for SLCC students, faculty, staff, and administrators to share their experiences related to justice, equity diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) in the classroom, on campus, and in the community through storytelling. We continue to navigate the challenges and inequities in higher education and in our daily lived experiences, which have been further exposed by the Covid pandemic. Our hope is that the symposium will be a space to share our stories of transformation from inequity to equity, from exclusion to inclusion, from loss to growth, and from disconnection to belonging. Through our stories, we hope that participants will come away with stronger relationships, new ideas for JEDI work, and inspiration to take action towards creating a welcoming and inclusive working, teaching, and learning environment for everyone at SLCC. All in the community are welcome to attend. 

 

eLearning Courses Canvas User Credential (DCUC) 
This course teaches the key features of Canvas. The course is self-paced, so you can complete this course as quickly you’d like. There are no on-campus meetings for this course. The course is taught asynchronously and fully online so you can experience what it’s like to be an online student. The course takes about 12 hours to complete. You can enroll anytime, and begin the course anytime between now and 4/5/22, then complete the course by 5/5/22. For more information, see FAQs about SLCC's Canvas User Credential. Register for the course in SLCC's training registration system; look for course code DCUC. 


Broadcast Teacher Credential (DBTC) 
Online 
This course is for faculty who want to teach broadcast-mode (live-streamed) courses at SLCC. There are no on-campus meetings for this course. The course is taught in a fully-online cohort that is both synchronous (live-streamed) and asynchronous so the participants can experience what it’s like to be a broadcast student and learn research-based best practices and expectations of being an broadcast instructor at SLCC. The course runs for five weeks, with assignments due each week. The course takes about 12 hours to complete (1-3 hours per week for five weeks). The next cohort runs from 3/21/22 to 4/25/22. PREREQUISITES: To register, you MUST already have competency in Canvas and Zoom, and you MUST have already completed the Online Teacher Credential course. Online Teacher Credential (Online) 
6/1/22 The last day to register  
Cohort runs 06/06/2022 to 07/18/2022 
This course is for all faculty who want to teach fully online courses at SLCC. There are no on-campus meetings for this course. The course is taught asynchronously and in a fully online cohort so you can experience what it’s like to be an online student and learn research-based best practices and expectations of being an online instructor at SLCC. The course runs for six weeks, with assignments due each week. The course takes about 16 hours to complete (2-4 hours per week for six weeks). The summer cohort runs from 6/6/22 to 7/18/22. The last day to register is 6/1/22.
