Weekly Meditative Pause

Join SLCC faculty Heidi O’Donoghue and Andrea Malouf each Tuesday afternoon from 1-1:30 p.m. for Meditative Pause for People in Higher Education. Each week we will take a break from doing and problem-solving to come together for ½ hour sessions to connect, relax and center via zoom. We’ll explore breathing and relaxation techniques, as well as best practices for mindful communication and well-being. Each session will include a very brief introduction to the weekly topic, a guided meditation and then a short group reflection. No registration required.

 

Transparent Assignments (FC68)

In this workshop, participants will be introduced to transparent assignment design and resources to make it easy to achieve transparency. Bring at least one assignment with you to the workshop.

Faculty Learning Community: JEDI in the Classroom (FC37)
Feb. 24, March 31, April 21-- Register for all sessions you can attend.

This Faculty Learning Community FLC is designed as an ongoing space for faculty to be in community with each other, develop trust for open dialogue, and discuss justice, equity, diversity, and inclusivity -JEDI- issues in the classroom. We will discuss topics such as racial identity development, gender, bias and microaggressions, responding to challenging situations, and classroom and department climate. You are welcome to join one or all sessions. Come with any questions you may have regarding JEDI in your own classroom.

Equity in Student Writing Faculty Learning Community (FO18)

In this learning community, participants will explore how to create (and support) equitable writing instruction, assignment, and assessment practices for all students. Participants will complete three self-paced online courses--4 hours each--prior to a 1-hour discussion. The courses and scheduled discussions are:

eLearning Courses
Canvas User Credential (DCUC)
Register anytime between now and April 5, 2022.  Course must be finished by May 5, 2022. 
This course teaches the key features of Canvas. The course is self-paced, so you can complete this course as quickly you’d like. There is no on-campus meeting for this course. The course is taught asynchronously and fully online so you can experience what it’s like to be an online student. The course takes about 12 hours to complete. Broadcast Teacher Credential (DBTC)
March 21-April 25
This course is for faculty who want to teach broadcast-mode (live-streamed) courses at SLCC. There is no on-campus meeting for this course. The course is taught in a fully-online cohort that is both synchronous (live-streamed) and asynchronous so the participants can experience what it’s like to be a broadcast student and learn research-based best practices and expectations of being a broadcast instructor at SLCC. The course runs for five weeks, with assignments due each week. The course takes about 12 hours to complete (1-3 hours per week for five weeks). PREREQUISITES: To register, you MUST already have competency in Canvas and Zoom, and you MUST have already completed the Online Teacher Credential course.
