Safe Hire Training Program

A memorandum to the SLCC campus community, from Richard Enyard, PhD, Associate Vice President of People and Workplace Culture.

People and Workplace Culture is pleased to announce the launching of the new Safe Hire Training Program. The Safe Hire Training Program is a program designed to ensure that SLCC is legally compliant in its hiring processes. The Safe Hire Training Program replaces the Search Advocate Training Program — it will ensure that all hiring committees (faculty and staff) are legally compliant. This change updates the training and information provided to search committees and anyone serving on a search committee. The Safe Hire Training Program will provide our search committees with the most up-to-date information on interviewing/hiring.

The Safe Hire Training Program will focus on: Equal Employment Opportunity, uniform hiring guidelines in the hiring/selection process, how to form a search committee and its functions, Federal and State Laws governing legally compliant hiring, how to identify and ask legally appropriate interview questions, and the completion of the I-9 process.

The new Safe Hire Training Program will have a pre-launch date of April 19, 2024, at the Focus and Learn Day and a May 1, 2024, launch, at the Supervisors' Guidance Meeting. The official launch of the Safe Hire Training Program will take place on June 18, 2024 at the Hiring Bootcamp. All who attend these sessions will receive credit for attendance and completion. Please note, all hiring managers and any employee interested in serving on a search committee must first complete the Safe Hire Training Program. This training must be renewed every two (2) years. For those attending the above mentioned training dates, attendance and participation will be recorded to ensure that you will receive credit for attending the training.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Search Advocates for all the work you have done to move SLCC forward. I look forward to your continued participation and support as we ensure that we have a hiring program that is fair and equitable. I appreciate your patience, as we developed this new training.
